The Importance of Play

"It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them."
-Leo Buscaglia

This is such an important statement as I have learned in my teaching toddlers that children learn through experience and a majority of their daily activities focus on hand-on play centers.

  1. I couldn't agree more. One of the first things I always explained to parents was the set up of my classroom--in centers and why. Yes, I had a desk in the classroom with a dry erase board, tables for seat work, etc but the most important areas of my room were the centers. Each week I added new things that the children just saw as fun but they learned so many things just "playing" in those centers daily.
